Tarmac & asphalt surfacing · Edinburgh

How much does Tarmac & asphalt surfacing cost in Edinburgh? (2026 price guide)

Resurfacing a standard driveway with tarmac typically costs £2,500-£5,000, while larger areas or full new installations including edging and drainage usually run £5,000-£9,000. Smaller patch repairs or pothole filling generally cost £150-£500, and commercial car park surfacing is priced separately, often per square metre.

Costs depend mainly on the total area to be surfaced, the depth and quality of tarmac specified, whether the existing surface needs full excavation or can simply be overlaid, and access for surfacing machinery and delivery lorries. Firms that lay a proper sub-base rather than a thin overlay typically charge more but deliver a longer-lasting result.

Avoiding the cheapest quotes that skip sub-base preparation is usually worthwhile, since a poorly laid surface often needs redoing within a few years.
